History
The institute was established on August 1, 2006, and has been offering a master’s program since then. It was originally named the ‘Graduate Institute of Social Administration and Social Work’ and was renamed to ‘Graduate Institute of Social Work’ on August 1, 2009. Thereafter, a doctoral program was started on August 1, 2013, and the mission of the Institute is to cultivate both academic and professional experts in social work.

 

Features
The institute is dedicated to promoting social justice and equality through research, teaching, social advocacy, and services, aiming to enhance people’s well-being and strengthen social inclusion. Our faculty specializes in social work and social welfare, providing professional training in services for families, children and youth, long-term care, mental health, Indigenous peoples, immigrants, and economically disadvantaged groups. The institute is characterized by its focus on empowerment and advocacy and offers opportunities for domestic and overseas practicum placements. By integrating theory with practice and combining macro- and micro-level perspectives, we strive to nurture outstanding social work professionals with an international and multicultural vision, critical and reflective thinking, and a strong commitment to advancing social reform, as well as international scholars with exceptional research and teaching capabilities.
